PSL stands for Premier Soccer League and it is the national sports association that is in charge of the administration of South Africa’s professional leagues namely the National First Division and African premier division.

The creation of the Premier Soccer League followed an agreement between the National Soccer League and what remained of the Nation’s Premier Soccer League and it functions as both an organizer of competitions as well as a governing body. After a brief inspection of the Transfer market, the following teams have been deemed to be the richest teams in the Premier Soccer League.

2. Kaizer Chiefs

With a net worth of $9.1 million, the chiefs are the second richest team in South Africa. The club is based in the city of Johannesburg and is nicknamed “Amakhosi: a Zulu word that translates to “Chiefs” or “Lords”. They are also referred to as the “Phefani Glamour boys” as well.

Their current home matches are now usually played at Soccer City which is located in Nasrec in the city of Soweto (Commonly called the FNB Stadium).

The Kaizer Chiefs have an existing local rivalry with their counterparts, the Orlando Pirates and the two of them are usually engaged in one of the toughest derbies in the world, known as the Soweto Derby. As is common knowledge, in his early football career, Kaizer Motaung, the founder of the Kaizer Chiefs was a player in the Orlando Pirates.

The CAF once banned the Kaizer Chiefs from participating in African club football for a period spanning 2005 to 2009, because of the impromptu withdrawal from the Confederation cup organized by CAF in the year 2005. It was the second time in a period of 4 years that they had received a penalty as a result of their refusal to take part in CAF games that had already been scheduled.

3. Supersport United

This South African football club is owned completely by the South African group of TV Channels known as SuperSport.

SuperSport United was originally known by the name Pretoria City but M-Net bought City in the year 1994, and the following approval is given by the National Soccer League, the club had to be renamed.

Aside from the football team which plays in the Premier Soccer League, there are also some youth academies in the SuperSport United Youth Academy and they all play in various structures organized by SAFA.

While the Premier Soccer League and the South African Football Association are affiliated, the South African Football Association does not govern the competitions organized by the Premier Soccer League. Any team that goes into relegation from the divisions organized by the Premier Soccer League goes on to compete in the second division of the South African Football Association.
