These rich men and women who basically have the world at their feet are usually charity giants and philanthropists who give a very substantial percentage of their overall wealth out to charity as a means of giving back to the community and making a positive impact with their impressive pockets. As a matter of fact, it is known that some of these rich men and women have taken “the Giving Pledge” which simply means that they have promised that at least half of their considerable wealth will go towards philanthropic pursuits and charity for the less privileged.


Presently, according to a report by Forbes, there are more than 2000 billionaires from various parts of the world, and there is an expected rise in that number in years to come. These world richest people range from CEOs of tech companies to heirs and heiresses, to expert investors all over the world, based on estimates presented by Forbes.


The position of the richest man in the world is occupied by Jeff Bezos. Bezos also holds the position of the richest person in the world and of all time after crossing $100 billion. The position was occupied by the Co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.

Jeff Bezos is the owner of an online retail giant,, and the majority of his total net worth can be attributed to the 78.9 million shares of Amazon stock which is owned by the billionaire. In the year 2017, Amazon shares climbed almost 57%. Based on an analysis by Earnest Research located in New York, the Seattle-based corporation, managed to make up to 89% of online spending among all the major retailers in the 5-week period which began on Thanksgiving.

The former holder of the position, Bill Gates, occupies the second spot on the list of 10 richest people in the world with about $92 billion. A lot of arguments have been brought forward that the only reason Bill Gates isn’t occupying the first position is that of the significant contributions he makes to charity. According to a report by Bloomberg, the Microsoft co-founder has donated nearly 700 million in Microsoft Shares which, tuned to today’s current value would be at about $61.8 billion and also about $2.9 billion of cash since the year 1996.


This prestigious position is held by Alice Walton, an American heiress, and daughter of the founder of Walmart, Sam Walton. The former holder of this position was French Heiress, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers.  Alice Walton was born in Newport, Arkansas and holds a B.A in Economics and Finance after graduating from Trinity university located in San Antonio in the state of Texas. At the start of her career, Alice was the equity analyst as well as the money manager for First Commerce Corporation and was also the head of investment activities at Arvest Bank Group. In the year 1988, she founded an investment bank known as Llama Company where she held the position of CEO, president, and chairwoman before it closed in the late 1990s. She holds the record of being the first person to chair the North-West Arkansas Council and is recognized for the vital role she played in the development of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. Alice Walton was inducted in the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame in the year 2001. Alice Walton focuses on curating art, but at the same time, she co-manages the holding company of the family, Walton Enterprises.
