Rakesh Gangwal made his fortune from InterGlobe Aviation, which is the parent outfit and holding company of the Indian budget airline IndiGo.

Rakesh Gangwal was born in Kolkota and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He originally traveled to the United States to do an MBA from Wharton but found himself working.

Rakesh Gangwal started his working career with United Airlines in 1984 and was very successful. In fact, he went on to run the US Airways Group as its chief executive and chairman. He later co-founded IndiGo in 2006, along with his partner Rahul Bhatia. Rakesh Gangwal holds more than a third of the shares in the company.
